What is Special Education?
Special Education programs in our school exist to provide services to students who meet eligibility requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) under one of the thirteen disability categories allowed in the State of Idaho. Each Pathways in Education school is served by special education professionals and related service providers. Some services are contracted out with local providers. The District seeks to meet its obligations under the law to provide Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to all eligible students and to do this within the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Services will be provided in a student’s school to the extent that this is appropriate.
Child Find
In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), our charter school conducts an intensive and proactive Child Find process to identify students who may need special education services. We screen all students for academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs using research based tools throughout the school year. This includes universal screeners, teacher observations, and parent input. Students identified through this process may receive targeted interventions and progress monitoring. If concerns persist, the school team may refer the student for a special education evaluation with parental consent. Our goal is to ensure that every student receives the support they need to succeed—whether through general education interventions, a Section 504 Plan, or an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
